Arts Literacy: Inspiring and Engaging Lifelong Learners is the goal of Alabama's K-12 arts education program.

Encompassing the disciplines of dance, media arts, music, theatre, and visual arts, the arts in education program provides opportunities for students to explore the artistic processes of these disciplines while making connections to all subject areas. To emphasize the importance of the arts for Alabama students, the Alabama Course of Study: Arts Education provides rigorous standards for all students in Grades K-12. This document reflects national standards, providing for the development of skills in each discipline with an underlying appreciation for the significance of the arts across societies and cultures.

The Alabama Arts Alliance is a statewide partnership program of the Alabama State Council on the Arts, is a member of Americans for the Arts, the Southeastern Arts Advocacy Group, and a partner with the Alabama State Department of Education. Projects and programs are supported by grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, South Arts Inc., Support the Arts License Tag Fund, and individual donations.
